Je m'appelle Greg. I'm not French.

I've lived in Richmond, VA my whole life and my mind was wired to create stuff. Music and photography in particular.

I actually wanted to be a brain surgeon when I was a kid and my parents dutifully bought me human anatomy coloring books; ear, brain, skeleton models; and tomes of scholarly works including Grey's anatomy. I was entranced by the images. I'm not sure I read much of any of them apart from determining if I had scurvy, a brain tumor, or cauliflower ear. Fortunately all I had was a love of anything visually interesting. I can still see the photos of the middle ear's hammer, anvil, and stirrup in all their glory.

Much to my parents' dismay, MTV was born right in our den in 1981. Suddenly my hands with all their nervous energy found out exactly what they were supposed to do: not open up someone's brain case and start cutting, but bang on things. Anything. The first victims were my mother's Tuppeware. Dutifully if not begrudgingly, my parents bought me a snare drum, a hi-hat, full drum set, acoustic guitar, and synthesizer. I was in heaven. This passion followed me through college where I graduated with a bachelor's degree in music composition. Later on, I'd even get a chance to record some soundtracks for a couple of TV show hopefuls.

It wouldn't be too long before photography managed to elbow its way in however. The empty spot left at the end of a relationship and an ill-fated attempt at playing piano in a cover band proved to be fertile ground for this long needed renascence.

Enter the Canon T1i.

The flood gates opened. I took pictures every chance I got. I even pulled out my father's old 1990's film camera. I acquired a booth at Arts in the Park, gingerly hung up my pictures at the Pine Street Barbershop, Davis and Main, Cafe Ole, Firehouse Theatre Project, Station 2, and Palani Drive- I even managed to win the top prize in Dominion Riverrock's 2010 photo contest and was named "Best Local Photographer" by readers of Style Weekly in the Spring of 2011.

That brings us here, to this site where I'm hoping you'll find as much enjoyment viewing these photos and listening to this music as I've had taking and recording them.

Please be sure to visit the blog where among ruminations about cameras and photography in general, you'll probably hear some music other than piano from a cover band.
